Treatment with Clear Aligners at Tyma Trachtenberg Dental
Our dentists will assess your teeth and gums before treatment to determine if this treatment is right for you. We will take dental impressions and 3-D images of your teeth and jaw using computer imaging. This is done to create your custom clear aligners and to show you what your teeth will look like after treatment.
You will receive several sets of clear aligners that are worn for about two weeks each to gradually reposition the teeth. Treatment can take from 3 to 9 months depending on the patient and their dental needs. We will also provide you with a mouthguard following treatment to make sure that you maintain your results.
The Benefits of Clear Aligners
Clear aligners like Smart Moves aligners are used to correct:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowding of teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Clear aligners can help prevent problems that often arise with crooked teeth, such as:
- Tooth decay
- Misaligned bite
Smart Moves aligners offer many modern benefits to patients. Cosmetic treatment can also be completed in less time than treatment with traditional metal braces. Adhesives that are used with metal braces may cause staining and make it difficult to brush teeth. The clear aligners can be easily removed so that you can eat and brush your teeth normally.
Clear Aligners FAQs
Do clear braces break easily?
Clear braces are less durable than metal braces because they are made of ceramic. Ceramic brackets are more likely to break than metal brackets. Treatment with clear braces may take longer than treatment with metal braces.
How long do you have to wear clear braces?
Treatment with clear braces can take anywhere from one to three years depending on the severity of your bite. Ceramic brackets take longer to shift teeth than metal brackets but the difference is not largely significant. Clear braces are a great option for patients who want to undergo orthodontic treatment, without having dark metal brackets on their teeth.
Do clear brackets stain?
Ceramic braces brackets will not stain, however they can become discolored from deeply colored foods and drinks. Patients should avoid drinking coffee, tea, red wine, etc with ceramic brackets. If you choose to drink any of these it is best to drink them through a straw. Patients should brush their teeth directly after to ensure that their brackets do not become discolored.
Do clear braces take longer?
Clear braces are known to take longer than metal braces. This time difference is not large, and for most patients the benefits of clear braces outweigh the added time.
Do clear braces hurt less?
Since clear braces are known to take a little bit longer than metal braces they may also be known to be less painful. They shift teeth at a slightly slower rate, so pain may be slightly less.
