Do you have damaged or weak teeth?
Dental crowns are a versatile option for patients who have damaged, misshapen or severely stained and discolored teeth. Dental crowns cover teeth like a cap and are high-quality porcelain materials that we customize to blend in with your natural smile. Treatment with Dental Crowns
Tooth Crowns and Partial Crowns
Before treatment, one of our professionals will perform an examination of the teeth and gums. Using x-rays and impressions, they will look for signs of decay and stress on the teeth. This exam will help us design a custom treatment plan.
Then, we will prepare the tooth or teeth receiving the crown. Our dentist will remove all decay and a small amount of the natural tooth structure to accommodate the dental crown. Next, we may place a temporary tooth cap on the tooth while we waif for the final restoration. After a couple of weeks, you will return to our dental office so that we can permanently secure your new dental crown restoration.
Inlays and Onlays
Porcelain inlays and onlays are a type of indirect tooth filling that we bond directly to the tooth. They help strengthen the tooth structure and protect teeth from further damage and decay. They are stain-resistant and easy to care for and maintain. An inlay fits between the cusps of a tooth. An onlay covers a larger area: one or more of the tooth cusps.
Dental Crown FAQs
How long should a crown stay on your tooth?
The length of time that a crown stays on your tooth can vary depending on the type of material your dentist uses for the crown. On average, a crown lasts about 15 years. Crowns may last up to 25-30 years with proper care and diet.
Can you place two crowns in one appointment?
Yes, we can install multiple crowns during one dental visit. This will extend the length of your appointment, but for many patients it is easier to get all of their crowns in one sitting.
Can a dentist near me whiten my dental crown?
No, unfortunately dentists can not whiten dental crowns. We will match their color to the exact tone of your natural teeth, but they will not take to whitening solutions like natural tooth enamel does. We will recommend that you get a teeth whitening treatment before the dental crown procedure.
